Committed to the Communities in Which We Work and Live Genentech works proactively with local governments and community-based organizations to ensure that the company plays a positive role in the communities in which we live and operate. It's important for us to build trustworthy and sustainable relationships with institutions and individuals in the communities that surround us.

Genentech provides charitable contributions in support of local organizations and events, supports group employee volunteer activities, and creates our own programs to meet the unique needs of our communities.

For example, Genentech launched the "Genentech Goes to Town" community relations program in 1993 to encourage employees to shop locally for goods and services and experience the downtown areas of several cities in which Genentech is based.

It's also important that our employees are involved in the community. We match employee donations and soon will be matching volunteer hours, too.

Genentech provides targeted support for numerous nonprofit organizations in California's greater Bay Area, Solano County and San Diego County. We have also helped community-based organizations in Washington County (Oregon) and Jefferson County (Kentucky) through our community grants and sponsorships program.

Genentech Holiday Giving makes holiday donations in the form of toys and teddy bears to pediatric patients in local community hospitals.
